I have tested many oral health products over the years but this is my first experience with the Oclean brand. In recent years we have seen several fledgling brands taking new and colorful oral health products to market. Oclean has been around since 2016 and now has a range of electric toothbrushes, water flossers, and UV sterilization units.
Why Use An Oral Irrigator
Maintaining great oral health depends on our ability to physically remove as much plaque from our teeth every single day. The truth is that toothbrush bristles can only reach about 60% of the teeth surfaces and that still leaves 40% that need to be cleaned by flossing.
Unfortunately, research tells us that much of the population either don’t floss at all or floss with a poor and ineffective technique. Failing to clean away dental plaque has been proven to be responsible for the inflammation that leads to gum disease.
The Oclean W10 oral irrigator ($59.99) is a cordless water flosser that has been designed to be a quick and convenient means to remove bacterial plaque and food debris from the areas that a toothbrush can’t reach.

The W10 Oral irrigator came in an attractive box that measured about 23cm x 20cm x 6cm. The packaging was robust and the contents included –
- 1 x W10 Oral irrigator handle
- 1 x USB charging cable
- 1 x Standard cleaning nozzle
- 1 x Orthodontics cleaning nozzle
- 1 x Periodontal cleaning nozzle
- 1 x Tongue cleaning nozzle
- 1 x Quick start guide card
- 1 x User Manual

Using The W10 Oral Irrigator
The Unit came with a charge already in the battery, so I was able to try it immediately right out of the box. This product is very easy to set up and use.
- Select the appropriate cleaning nozzle.
- Insert the cleaning nozzle into the W10 body.
- Fill the water compartment with water.
- Select the desired cleaning mode.
- Use oral irrigator

Selecting A W10 Cleaning Nozzle
I was pleased to see that the W10 came with a selection of cleaning nozzles. I found the periodontal cleaning head to be particularly helpful in irrigating my teeth with a high level of accuracy and comfort. I have been using the Fairywill oral irrigator recently and that model only ships with one type of nozzle. I do believe the four cleaning heads that Oclean does make the W10 more flexible and adaptable.
Tip – You should never direct a powerful jet of water directly at soft tissues like lips, cheeks, and tongue. The Oclean W10 should only be used to irrigate the teeth and supporting gum tissue.
#1. Standard Nozzle
This is a hard-ended cleaning tip that is suitable for general use. This nozzle has a 0.6mm open-end and is the nozzle you would use if you want to experience the maximum 90psi cleaning force. All of the nozzles can rotate by 360° so you can adjust the tip to the perfect angle. Nozzles can be easily swapped in seconds by using the click-and-release button.
#2.Orthodontic Nozzle
This nozzle has a very soft brush at the tip that is designed to be used to clean around the brackets and wires of orthodontic braces. Keeping teeth clean while wearing braces can be very challenging and the W10 is an excellent tool for just that purpose. I don’t have braces, but I found this nozzle to be great for gently brushing along the gum line where the gum tissue meets the teeth.
#3. Periodontal Nozzle
This is a soft rubber-tipped nozzle that is designed to help flush out the periodontal pockets that develop when gum disease is present. One of the big advantages of using an oral irrigator is that the jet of water can clean the periodontal areas that toothbrushes and floss can’t reach. Studies have shown that water irrigation can be hugely beneficial in the treatment of gum disease.
#4. Tongue Nozzle
This nozzle is spoon-shaped in design, much like a typical tongue scraper. The pulsed stream of water combined with a gentle cleaning action left my tongue and mouth feeling extra clean and fresh. 90% of bad breath is attributed to a build-up of bacteria on the tongue surface and this nozzle could be an effective way to reduce that bacterial load.

Adding Water To The Oclean W10
The Oclean W10 is a compact water flosser. It stands just under 20cm tall and as a result, it has a relatively small 200ml water tank.
Having tested the W10 in all cleaning modes with all nozzles, I found that a full tank of water will give between 47 seconds and 80 seconds depending on which mode and nozzle are used.
Tip – filling the water tank with lukewarm water can make the experience more comfortable. This is especially true if you suffer from sensitive teeth.

Charging The Oclean W10
The W10 comes with a USB Type-C charging cable. I much prefer oral care devices that have a USB charging option compared to the ones that use mains charging. USB gives you the option to charge from a USB adapter plug, power bank, or computer port.
To charge the W10, you pull down the waterproof charging port cover and plug in the USB cable. To let you know that the battery is charging, the power button light pulses on and off. Once full charging is achieved, the power button light remains on. It took roughly 4 hours to fully charge the battery.
The W10 uses a rechargeable 1400mAh lithium-ion battery which will give you about one month of usage between charges.

Operating The W10 Oral Irrigator
The W10 has two control buttons –
- Power button.
- Mode selection button.
Power button
This button has a concave design which lessens the chance of turning on the unit by accident. I have found this to be a problem with some water flossers so I was pleased to see this design feature.
When the intense, standard, gentle, and pulsing modes are selected – one press will turn on the motor and a second press will turn the motor off.
When the on-demand mode is selected, the motor will only run while the power button is depressed.
Mode selection button
Pressing the mode button repeatedly will scroll through the settings and allow you to select the mode you want to use.
Memory function
The W10 has a handy feature that remembers the last cleaning mode you used. This means that you don’t have to keep selecting your favorite cleaning mode.
Water remaining function
Every 15 seconds, the power will briefly change to alert the user that ¼, ½, and ¾ of the water capacity has been used.
The W10 uses a rechargeable 1400mAh lithium-ion battery which will give you about one month of usage between charges.
W10 Cleaning Modes
The W10 has five different cleaning modes to choose from.
- Intensive.
- Standard.
- Gentle.
- Pulsating
- On-demand mode
Intensive
The most powerful cleaning experience can be achieved by using the intensive cleaning mode combined with the standard nozzle. This gives the maximum 90psi water flow to the teeth and gums. I am accustomed to using a water flosser every day as part of my oral health routine so I was easily able to cope with the intense setting. However, if you have never used a product like this before, I would recommend you don’t start with this mode. Try the gentle cleaning setting first until you become used to the process.
The first time I used an oral irrigator, I did notice a little bit of blood in the sink. That is not unusual and you shouldn’t be put off from continuing. If you notice bleeding when you brush or floss, it is a sign that you have some level of gum infection or inflammation. After just a few days of using an oral irrigator, you should notice a marked improvement in gum health. I have used a water flosser every day for many years now and I have never experienced any bleeding apart from that very first cleaning session.
Standard
This cleaning mode is marginally less powerful than the intense mode. Unfortunately, Oclean doesn’t specify the power of each individual mode in psi (pounds per square inch). But given the tests I did, I can say that there isn’t a huge difference between the intense and standard mode. I would estimate the standard mode to be around 70psi – 75psi. Suffice to say, both modes give a powerful clean.
Gentle
According to Oclean, the intensity settings for the cleaning modes range from 90psi – 20psi. So I would assume the gentle mode is 20psi. There is a very distinct difference between this mode and the intense and standard settings. The gentle clean program would be ideal for people just starting with an oral irrigator or those who have sensitive teeth or gums.
Pulsating
This setting modulates between high and low power to give a massaging type effect. There is some suggestion that this type of action can stimulate blood flow in the gum tissue. I did find this to be a good mode to use in combination with the tongue cleaner.
On-demand mode
This mode functions differently in that the motor only runs when your finger is pressed on the power button. This could be helpful for people who want to concentrate on certain problem areas.
Intense
Testing results from the intense mode with a full tank of water =
- 55 seconds of cleaning time using the standard nozzle.
- 59 seconds of cleaning time using the periodontal nozzle.
- 55 seconds of cleaning time with the orthodontic nozzle
- 47 seconds of cleaning with the tongue nozzle.
Standard
Testing results from the standard mode with a full tank of water =
- 56 seconds of cleaning time using the standard nozzle.
- 62 seconds of cleaning time using the periodontal nozzle.
- 59 seconds of cleaning time with the orthodontic nozzle
- 51 seconds of cleaning with the tongue nozzle.
Gentle
Testing results from the gentle mode with a full tank of water =
- 73 seconds of cleaning time using the standard nozzle.
- 80 seconds of cleaning time using the periodontal nozzle.
- 75 seconds of cleaning time with the orthodontic nozzle
- 59 seconds of cleaning with the tongue nozzle.
Pulsating
Testing results from the gentle mode with a full tank of water =
- 60 seconds of cleaning time using the standard nozzle.
- 70 seconds of cleaning time using the periodontal nozzle.
- 63 seconds of cleaning time with the orthodontic nozzle
- 53 seconds of cleaning with the tongue nozzle.
Verdict
The build quality and design are excellent. For people who like their gadgets to be good-looking as well as functional, the W10 is nicely styled and finished in lemon green.
Initially, I thought that the 200ml water tank would be too small to give a satisfying cleaning session compared to the 350ml of my Fairywill flosser. However, the difference in cleaning time amounted to just 15 seconds. And after using the W10 for a few days I became accustomed to the slightly shorter cleaning sessions. However, if you are going to do a tongue cleaning session as well as a teeth irrigation session, you will need to fill the tank twice. The advantage of the small water tank is that the unit itself is small and compact compared to many other water flossers.
One of my pet peeves with my old water flosser was how easily it was to accidentally press the on button and spray water everywhere when handling the unit. The W10 has a recessed concave power button that reduces the chance of any mishaps.
I like that the W10 charges by USB rather than by a mains power cable. This allows me to charge from different sources like a USB mains adapter, USB power bank, or computer.
Not all Oral irrigators come with a selection of nozzles and I like that Oclean decided to include a periodontal, orthodontic, and tongue cleaning attachment. This makes the W10 an excellent all-around oral health tool that can hit all the right spots. The standard nozzle makes it blissfully easy to irrigate the teeth and disrupt the plaque from the areas a toothbrush can’t reach.
The soft-tipped periodontal nozzle offers a gentle way to flush toxins out of the gum pockets to improve periodontal health.
For anybody who wears braces, the intense cleaning mode combined with the orthodontic nozzle should have the power to keep the teeth and gums clean during the prescription period.
If you are worried about bad breath, the tongue cleaning nozzle cleans and irrigates the grooves in the tongue surface where the smelly bacteria hide. 90% of bad breath comes from the tongue and a daily clean with the Oclean W10 can help keep halitosis at bay.
Sticking to a daily flossing routine can be daunting for many people. Gum disease is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases in the world today and it is clear that much of the population are failing to adequately remove bacterial plaque from the problem areas in their mouths. After thoroughly testing the Oclean W10 oral irrigator I believe it would be an excellent tool for helping people improve their oral health.
