DiamondClean 3rd Generation Review
Philips has recently released the 3rd generation of their very popular DiamondClean toothbrush. While it is one of the most expensive toothbrushes on the market, it is also one of the most sought after.
We took some time out to review the latest version to is if it is worth the fuss.
The main purpose of any toothbrush is to remove as much plaque as possible and leave the teeth feeling clean and fresh. So if you are going to rate a toothbrush, you have to judge its ability to brush away plaque effectively. The decades of research and development from Philips has resulted in a near perfect combination of brush movement and contact.
Philips has a pretty good customer service reputation so you can be confident that should your toothbrush fail they will respond and resolve quickly.
The Lithium-ion batteries contained in the DiamondClean are little powerhouses of energy that will outperform the nickel-cadmium and nickel metal hydride usually used in other toothbrushes.
A great feature that is available on some Philips Sonicare toothbrushes is the Easy-Start mode. For people who have never used a high powered electric toothbrush like the DiamondClean, the sensation caused by the 62,000 brush movements per second can seem strange. For this reason, Sonicare included an Easy-Start mode that starts at a lower intensity and then gradually increases to full power over the course of 14 brushings.
The DiamondClean toothbrush and its accessories are without a doubt the most stylish way to clean your teeth both at home and on your travels. If you are style conscious and you like your gadgets to look good on your bathroom counter, then the DiamondClean is a great choice.
The USB charging travel case is a handy addition that lets you discreetly charge your toothbrush from any USB power supply like a laptop, computer or power bank. If you travel a lot, or you don’t want the clutter of having a toothbrush charger plugged into your bathroom power socket the travel case is a great accessory.
Although the Sonicare DiamondClean is an excellent toothbrush, it does demand a high price. The recommended retail price places it as one of the most expensive consumer toothbrushes on the market. The good news is that for people who are interested in buying a DiamondClean toothbrush they can usually be found selling for heavily discounted prices.
Philips DiamondClean 3rd Generation Accessories.
When Philips first released the DiamondClean Toothbrush, it was the stylish accessories that caught the eye and set it apart from the competition. As new generations of the toothbrush come along, the accessories included also change slightly. The latest 3rd generation DiamondClean has a couple of significant differences that are worth pointing out. Firstly, Philips have removed the charging glass from the accessories and replaced it with the more streamlined puck-shaped charging stand. This change that might disappoint some buyers since the charging glass was one of the stylish accessories that set the DiamondClean apart from other toothbrushes. It should be noted, however, that you can buy the charging glass separately and use it with the 3rd generation DiamondClean.
The second accessory difference with the new generation is that the cleaning head supplied with the toothbrush is now the new AdaptiveClean brush instead of the older DiamondClean Brush.
The DiamondClean Generations.
The Sonicare DiamondClean has been one of Philips most popular electric toothbrushes of recent years. The model has recently been refreshed and updated with the 3rd generation release and a Bluetooth enabled smart version.
Sonicare DiamondClean By Color
When Philips first developed the DiamondClean they wanted it to be a toothbrush that was as beautiful as it was practical. The end result is a premium toothbrush that will add a touch of style to any bathroom countertop. At the moment the DiamondClean is available in five attractive colors.
Sonicare DiamondClean Pink
The Diamondclean pink edition is one of the most popular models available. The pretty pink finish adds a bit of color and style to any modern bathroom countertop.
The pink edition is available in the 2nd generation and 3rd generation ranges, and also in the DiamondClean Smart series.
Sonicare DiamondClean Rose Gold
The rose gold color scheme was first introduced on the 2nd generation DiamondClean. It adds a little bit of understated sophistication to the bathroom.
The rose gold model is available on 2nd generation and 3rd generation models but not on the DiamondClean Smart range.
Sonicare DiamondClean Black
The black edition was one of the original colors that featured on the 1st generation DiamondClean range when they were released in 2011.
The black finish is available on the 1st generation, 2nd generation, and DiamondClean Smart range of toothbrushes.
Sonicare DiamondClean Amethyst
Once upon a time you could buy a toothbrush in any color, provided it was white. Today, you can own this DiamondClean in striking Amethyst purple.
This Amethyst purple DiamondClean was introduced with the 2nd generation, and it is currently available on 3rd generation models in select regions.
Sonicare DiamondClean White
For those who have a preference for the traditional clinical white look, the DiamondClean electric toothbrushes are always readily available in classic white.
You can easily find the white edition DiamondClean in 1st generation, 2nd generation and Smart ranges.
Sonicare DiamondClean modes and what they do.
The Sonicare DiamondClean toothbrush has five different cleaning modes that all work slightly differently. Understanding how the modes function will help you to select and customize your toothbrushing sessions to best suit your oral health needs. Here we review the Sonicare cleaning modes and find out what they acually do.
This is the default cleaning mode on all sonicare electric toothbrushes. The brush head completes 31,000 movements per second which makes it significantly more effective at removing plaque than the human hand and a manual toothbrush.
The white mode provides a more intense cleaning session that is designed to remove stains from the surface of the teeth. In this mode the toothbrush cleans for the normal 2 minutes and then continues for another 30 seconds to give your teeth and extra polish. If you regularly eat and drink foods that cause teeth staining, incorporating the White cleaning mode into your brushing routine can help to avoid permanent teeth staining.
If you want to give your teeth the most powerful clean that you can, then the Deep Clean mode is the best selection. This program lasts for three minutes instead of the normal two-minutes, and the cleaning head vibrates with more intensity than the other cleaning modes.
The Gum Care mode starts with the standard two-minute brushing program and then adds an extra one-minute of reduced power gum massaging to finish the session.
If you suffer from sensitive teeth, this mode will help to prevent any discomfort during brushing. The cleaning head vibrates at less intensity to provide a gentler cleaning session.
Sonicare DiamondCare Specifications
The Sonicare DiamondClean is a high-end toothbrush that comes with lots of features and accessories. Here we review the key specifications and add in some additional information.
The 3rd generation DiamondClean has five different cleaning modes including the brand new high-intensity Deep Clean feature.
The cleaning mode is the default cleaning program that most people find the most suitable. The 2-minute cleaning cycle is perfect for maintaining a good level of oral health.
The Deep Clean mode is the most intense of the Sonicare cleaning cycles. If you feel your teeth need an extra clean, this mode gives 3 minutes of high-velocity brushing.
If you eat and drink highly pigmented foods like red wine, coffee, sauces, and berries you will find that your teeth will gradually become discolored. The Sonicare White mode can help remove enamel stains and return your teeth to their original color.
The Sonicare Sensitive mode is the least intense of all the cleaning cycles. This is perfect if you suffer from sensitive teeth, gum disease or if you are new to using an electric toothbrush.
Maintaining healthy gums is hugely important for your oral health and general health. If you use the gum health mode, you will get a minute of gentle brush massaging at the end of the standard two-minute cleaning cycle. Regularly massaging your gums will increase blood flow and promote healthy gum tissue.
Philips has been researching and developing toothbrushes for decades now, and the resulting products are hugely efficient at removing plaque biofilm.
The Sonicare DiamondClean is a high powered electric toothbrush that runs at a maximum of 62,000 movements per minute. The thousands of brush strokes remove the plaque from the enamel surface, and whip cleansing bubbles between the teeth and below the gumline.
According to Philips, this toothbrush can remove up to 7x more plaque than a manual toothbrush. At maximum velocity, the brush head moves at 62,000 strokes per minute. In addition to removing plaque, the high-intensity movements also force cleansing fluids deep between the teeth and into the gumline.
The whitening cleaning mode performs a regular 2-minute cleaning cycle then finishes the process with 30-seconds of polishing. Although a toothbrush won’t actually change the color of your teeth, it can potentially remove surface stains.
Removing the maximum amount of plaque from your mouth is important for maintaining good oral and general health. Allowing plaque to build up on your teeth not only leads to tooth decay and gum disease but is also linked to heart disease, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, premature pregnancy and other conditions.
The Sonicare DiamondClean has a smart timer and Quadpacer feature to ensure you get the maximum benefit from each brushing session. The smart timer will stop the toothbrush at the end of it’s cleaning cycle, but if you have to pause for any reason, the timer will remember where to resume the session so you always get the correct cleaning duration. The Quadpacer is a simple alert system that beeps and pauses to alert you to move the brush to the next quadrant of your mouth.
Philips offers a two-year warranty from the date of purchase that covers the repair or replacement of the toothbrush or accessories. You should be aware that the warranty only covers component failure and not natural wear and tear.
Philips offers a two-year warranty on all Sonicare DiamondClean toothbrushes. The two year period comes into effect from the date of purchase.
The Lithium-ion battery contained in the DiamondClean gives three weeks of charge that equates to about 42 teeth brushing sessions.
The Sonicare DiamondClean electric toothbrush uses a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery.
With a fully charged battery, the DiamondClean toothbrush will give around three weeks worth of tooth brushing.
One of the main reasons that the DiamondClean caught the attention was the attractive accessories and innovative wireless charging.
Each Sonicare Pack comes with one brush handle. The handles are available in white, black, pink, rose gold and purple.
The 3rd generation DiamondClean toothbrush comes with one AdaptiveClean cleaning brush head.
Every DiamondClean package comes with one USB powered travel case. Each travel case matches the color of the toothbrush handle and contains space to store one toothbrush handle and two cleaning heads.
The 3rd generation DiamondClean is the first version that doesn’t come with a charging glass as standard. Instead, you get a more streamlined charging stand. The charging glass is compatible with the latest version, and you can buy it separately.
How to use a Sonicare DiamondClean.
How to get the best from your Sonicare DiamondClean electric toothbrush.
Step by Step Instructions
Rinse the brush bristles under the tap before starting your teeth cleaning session. To maintain good hygiene, it is always helpful to rinse the brush clean before and after brushing your teeth.
Squeeze a pea-sized amount of toothpaste onto the bristles of your diamondClean toothbrush. Don’t be tempted to use more toothpaste and cover the head of the toothbrush completely! Too much toothpaste can cause excess foaming and mess and usually results in your toothbrush becoming covered in residue.
Press the toothbrush against your teeth at a 45-degree angle, so the bristles come in contact with your gumline. Keep the middle of the brush in contact with the teeth throughout the session.
Press the power button to select your preferred cleaning mode and start the toothbrush. The DiamondClean toothbrush will remember the last cleaning mode you used and automatically restart with the same cleaning cycle. If you would like to use a different cleaning mode, you can simply scroll through the options with the power button.
With the bristles of your toothbrush gently pressed against your teeth, you should make small side-to-side brush strokes that allow the cleaning bristles to reach in between your teeth.
You can systematically brush all areas of your teeth evenly by using the built-in Quadtimer feature. Think of your mouth as being divided into four sections, top left and right and bottom left and right. Begin each teeth brushing session by concentrating on one section of your mouth. Carefully clean the outside, inside and biting surface of each tooth until the DiamondClean pauses to let you know to move on to the next section.
If you have selected the whitening mode, your toothbrush will continue for an extra thirty seconds to allow you to give your teeth an extra polish that will help to remove any stains from the enamel surface.
If you have chosen to uses the gum care mode, your toothbrush will continue for a further minute to let you massage your gums to increase blood flow and vitality.
After the cleaning cycle is complete, the toothbrush will turn off automatically. Rinse the cleaning bristles under the tap to flush away plaque and food debris and allow to air dry.

All of the Sonicare Diamondlean models are completely waterproof and safe to rinse under the tap. Even if you drop your toothbrush in a sink full of water, you can rest assured that it will not be damaged. You should be aware, however, that although the DiamondClean handle is waterproof, you should never put it in the dishwasher as it may be damaged.
